It all began with one simple request to perform a reading at my beloved niece's wedding ceremony. I scoured the Internet looking for ideas, and as an ex-English and drama teacher, I was repeatedly drawn back to the most popular Shakespearean sonnets.
Whilst the sonnets are beautiful and timeless pertinent reflections on love, I realised I wanted to create poetry specifically born to reflect my niece and her fiancé’s love story.
In creating the fourteen lines, I spoke in depth to my niece and her partner. I asked them about their individual recollections of meeting, their most treasured memories and explored the many connections they shared.
During the course of the conversations, something remarkable and very unexpected happened! As the couple shared their thoughts and reflections on love and their relationship, the main themes of their sonnet emerged. Whilst I wrote the words, it was truly a sonnet crafted through their love for each other.
This is what makes Bradbury Wedding Sonnets and Words so unique and special. My poetry is not simply rhyming words and lines, my Sonnets are crafted with the individuals to whom they are important. Each sonnet will be utterly bespoke, and words against which the speaker can pin point either a moment in time or an eternal capture of the poignancy of love.
This is why sonnets were created and have endured for hundreds of years as the finest, most exquisite expression of the many different qualities of love.
